fascinating geology, and much more!
The Pafos Regional Board of Tourism invites you to participate in a unique, free full-day excursion to
the stunning Akamas Peninsula, scheduled every Saturday from May to June 2025.
This initiative aims to shine a spotlight on the province's rural treasures and is supported by the
recent measures announced by the President of the Republic of Cyprus.
What Awaits You?
Your adventure begins at 9:15 AM, departing from the bus stop at the Archaeological Park of Kato
Paphos, where you’ll board a comfortable bus. As we glide along the picturesque coastal roads and
weave through the lush forests of Pegeia, our first stop takes us to the charming community of
Arodes.
Here, at the Akamas Geology and Paleontology Information Center, you’ll have the opportunity to
explore engaging exhibits that vividly illustrate the geological evolution and remarkable
paleontological discoveries of the Akamas Peninsula. Following this intriguing exploration, we will
enjoy a brief interlude in the inviting village square of Arodes. Feel free to grab a cup of coffee or a
refreshing beverage as you soak in the local ambiance (note that beverages are not included in the
excursion price).
As we continue our journey, we will make our way to Inia, where the newly opened Innia-Lara Turtle
Museum awaits. This remarkable museum offers a deep dive into the captivating lives of sea turtles.
Interactive displays and multimedia presentations will educate you on their biology, behavior, and the
vital conservation initiatives that aim to protect these magnificent creatures. Take a moment to
engage with the exhibits and learn about the challenges facing sea turtles today (again, refreshments
are not included).
Next, we will venture into the quaint village of Drousia, home to the Information Centre of Akamas
Rural Life and Traditions. Here, you’ll witness the rich tapestry of local culture come to life. Explore
the museum’s collection and enjoy live demonstrations where local artisans showcase traditional
crafts, providing an immersive glimpse into the artistry and skills that define this region.
At noon, we will head to the neighbouring village of Kathikas for a visit to the Akamas Avifauna and
Flora Visitor Centre. This center is a birdwatcher's paradise, showcasing the diverse avian species
and vibrant plant life that flourish in the Akamas Peninsula. Incorporating interactive applications,
stunning photographs, and informative videos, you will gain valuable insights into this ecological
treasure.
After this enriching experience, you will have some free time for lunch at a charming local restaurant
or café, or to stroll through the picturesque surroundings (lunch is not included in the excursion).
At approximately 3:30 PM, we will begin our journey back to Pafos, with an anticipated arrival of
around 4:15 PM at the parking lot of the Archaeological Park of Kato Paphos, where our exciting
excursion will conclude.
This initiative not only highlights the natural beauty of the Akamas Peninsula but also emphasizes the
support measures rolled out for its communities by the President of the Republic of Cyprus.
It is financially backed by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.
