A new tragedy is shaking society. A 17-year-old student in Paphos lost consciousness while he was in an open space of the Technical School where he is studying with his friends late yesterday afternoon. He was taken to the Paphos hospital by ambulance where the doctors on duty confirmed his death.
According to the initial examinations of the Police and the testimony obtained, he allegedly inhaled gas used to fill lighters. Immediately afterwards he lost consciousness and his friends alerted the authorities.
The exact causes of death of the 17-year-old are expected to be determined during the autopsy on the body of the minor, which will be carried out at a later stage. Police have obtained information that some youths are combining drug use with similar types of gas.
Four peers of the 17-year-old who lost his life last night in a school in Paphos, after using substances according to the first indications, have been arrested.
According to police, they were with him shortly before he lost consciousness.

An excavator belonging to a Greek Cypriot which was parked at the "river" location of the Prodromi district, in the municipality of Polis Chrysochous, suffered extensive damage from a fire that broke out around 9 last night.
The fire was extinguished by the fire service while the scene has been cordoned off and is being guarded. The first estimates of the authorities are that the fire in the vehicle was maliciously set.

Shortly after midnight today, the alarm system sounded in a house under construction in the area of Agios Tychonas.
Members of the Police went to the place where they located and stopped at a close distance, a car which was occupied by two people.
During the inspection, it was found that they were 41-year-olds and 45-year-olds, both residents of Limassol. From further checks, various construction and electrical tools, burglary tools and a small amount of cannabis were found inside the car.
After being informed about the offenses they were committing, the 45-year-old passenger tried to escape on foot but was stopped at a short distance by a member of the Police. The 45-year-old allegedly resisted during the arrest and beat the policeman.
The above two persons were arrested and detained, while from further examinations, the 41-year-old was allegedly residing illegally on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus since 2022.
The member of the Police was injured and was transferred to the Limassol General Hospital where it was found that he had an injury to his left arm as well as a lumbar injury. He was granted sick leave for 5 days.

The Police arrested two young foreign women, aged 19 and 16, permanent residents of Larnaca, in connection with a case of conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor and theft, which was committed on Saturday evening on Athinon Avenue (Finikoudes) in Larnaca.
Specifically, it was reported by a 45-year-old foreign tourist that while he was on the seafront, strangers stole his shoulder bag in which he had a laptop worth €800, €800 in cash, travel documents and credit cards.
Testimony against the two young women was obtained from examinations that took place in a kiosk, in which they used bank cards that same evening.
The suspects were then spotted by patrols of the Larnaca ADE wandering the coastal front and were taken to the Police.
Arrest warrants were issued against them, arrested on the same day and detained.
Subsequently, tyesterday they appeared before the Larnaca District Court where a detention order was issued against them for two days.
It is noted that the stolen property was located.

The alarm system of the Bank's Automatic Cash Register on the Larnaca – Dhekelia road, sounded around 2:00 in the morning.
Members of the Police went to the scene where they found a 22-year-old man, who was trying to cut off the door of the Automatic Cash Register with the use of an electric cutting tool (emery).
He was arrested for the flagrant offenses of attempted theft and possession of burglary tools and was then detained.

As part of the investigation into the causes of yesterday's road collision during which a 44-year-old woman was critically injured, the Police proceeded to arrest the 42-year-old driver of the vehicle involved on the basis of a court warrant, in order to facilitate the examinations.
The 26-year-old driver of the second car involved in the road collision was also arrested with a court warrant.
It is recalled that the collision happened around 7.30 p.m. yesterday, at the intersection of Stasinou and Salaminos avenues, when a car driven by the 26-year-old, under circumstances that are being investigated, collided with a car, driven by the 42-year-old. From the collision, the 26-year-old's car moved off the road, resulting in collision with the 44-year-old, who was standing on the sidewalk.
The 44-year-old woman was transported by ambulance to the Nicosia General Hospital, where it was found that she suffered a skull fracture and was detained for hospitalization in the intensive care unit. According to the attending physicians, her health condition is considered critical.
The 42-year-old driver was also taken to the hospital, who received first aid and was discharged. The 42-year-old woman was also subjected to an alcohol test with zero reading.
The 26-year-old also underwent an alcohol test, with a lower final reading of 111μg%, instead of 22μg. As a result, the 26-year-old was arrested and detained to facilitate interrogations.
The Nicosia Traffic Police is investigating the causes of the collision.

The Police continued the actions to identify third-country nationals residing illegally in Cyprus today, with coordinated operations in all provinces. During the operations, 24 persons were arrested, who were illegally residing in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.
Three of those arrested have already left Cyprus for their countries of origin. The rest were detained and their repatriation procedures have already been started.
The Police continues to focus its efforts on maximizing the number of repatriations of third-country nationals, in coordination with other competent Services.

The investigations continue at an intensive pace in relation to the case of 50 kilos of cannabis seized from a vehicle driven by the 41-year-old, during his arrest operation last Thursday. After two days, the wanted man was located and arrested at a holiday home in Kalo Chorio, Limassol district, which belongs to a 26-year-old suspect. With him was a 26-year-old woman, with whom the 41-year-old maintains friendly relations and initially allegedly has an active role in the case. The investigators of the YKAN appear convinced that she is a close associate of the suspect in the drug trafficking ring.
The 3 mobile phones that were found in the possession of the 41-year-old have been put under the microscope of the authorities. Thy will proceed with procedures for the issuance of a decree for access to its telecommunications data, in an effort to identify partners and suppliers of the large quantity of drugs. Yesterday, the 3 suspects were brought before the Court and in separate proceedings, the Court ordered the detention of the 41-year-old for 8 days and the two 26-year-olds for 3 days. The two suspects are being investigated by the Limassol Police Department for the offences of conspiracy, complicity after the commission and illegal possession of a controlled drug, class B'. Offences committed between 24 and 26 April.
According to information, on 26/04/2025, information was given to the Police that a 26-year-old suspect is involved in the use and trafficking of drugs, while he is in possession of large quantities, which he stores in his home, in an isolated area in the village of Kalo Chorio in Limassol. Also, according to the same information, in the house in question, in addition to drugs, the 41-year-old was also hiding.
After a coordinated operation on 26/4, the 41-year-old was arrested at the house, while the 26-year-old was with him. During the search of the house, a quantity of cannabis was found. At the same time, the 26-year-old suspect himself arrived at the house. In a search carried out on his vehicle, a quantity of cannabis, weighing 8.5 grams, was found.
At the end of the investigations, all three arrested were taken to the offices of the Ministry of Health for interrogation. Under written interrogation, the first suspect stated, among other things, that the drugs found in his vehicle were his own, while he stated that he was unaware of the other substances found in the house. He also mentioned that he knew the 26-year-old suspect and that in a communication he had with her, she informed him that she would go to his house. Later, when he arrived there with the wanted man, the latter asked him to host him for 1-2 days. He also claimed that he learned through Facebook that the 41-year-old was wanted and asked him to leave, which he promised, but was eventually located by the Police in his home.
Under written interrogation, the second suspect stated that part of the drugs found in the house of the first suspect did not belong to her, claiming that they belonged to 41-year-old Nikolaou, whom she knew. She also mentioned that on 24/04, during the evening hours, she met with Nikolaou in an area between Parekklisia and Agios Tychonas and spent the night with him. The next day, at noon, she was informed by a friend that Nikolaou was wanted by the Police for a drug case and then they went together to the house of the first suspect, where they asked him to host them for the evening, without informing him that Nikolaou was wanted.

Today the trial of the 40-year-old man who was arrested on the evening of Holy Monday as the perpetrator of the unprecedented events inside the church of Agia Paraskevi in Geroskipou is expected to begin. The 40-year-old Greek Cypriot is now charged with causing concern and disrupting a religious gathering inside the church.
The 40-year-old, who was arrested the same evening, after the unprecedented deviations, appeared the next day before the Paphos District Court, which decided that he remains in custody until today, the date on which his trial is expected to begin.
On the evening of Holy Monday and while the Service was being held in the church of Agia Paraskevi in Geroskipou, a man entered it, who began to shout and be aggressive. Members of the Police were called to the scene, who located the man outside the church. When the police asked for his details, he attacked them, resulting in his arrest for the flagrant offense of assaulting a police officer.
As it was later established, it is a 40-year-old resident of Paphos. According to the Police, a firecracker and a small amount of drugs were found and confiscated in his possession.

Around 4.30 yesterday afternoon, after relevant information, members of the Police went to a specific area in Limassol, where they found in an open metal box, 22 golf clubs, two wooden clubs as well as two sports bags containing 22 plastic bottles with liquid content.
