Titled The Magic of Choice, an art exhibition will open at the Multifunctional Cultural Centre in Pissouri on Saturday for one week, showing the works of artist Veera Romanoff. As its title suggests, it explores the plethora of choices humans have on a daily and their deeper, more philosophical connotations.

“Every day, we face choices,” says the artist, “conscious or intuitive, significant or barely perceptible. This process, fundamental to human existence, becomes the central theme of the exhibition The Magic of Choice.

“Choice is not merely an action,” she adds, “but a fundamental expression of freedom, shaping our identity and the reality around us. Existentialist philosophy, as explored by Jean-Paul Sartre, views choice as an inseparable part of human existence: we are ‘condemned to be free,’ meaning even inaction is a form of choice. The exhibition delves into the mechanisms of decision-making, transcending the boundaries between the rational and the intuitive.”

The showcase is split into two sections, mirroring in a way the polarity of artistic choice. One section is a colourful expression and is filled with vibrant hues and bold compositions that reflect the richness of life. The second section is a monochrome reflection – a space filled with depth, thought and minimalist aesthetics, symbolising the inner dilemma of the artist.

“In my artistic practice,” says Veera, “framed within the concept of metamodernism, I embrace an interdisciplinary approach. I engage in a dialogue between the resilience of cultural heritage and the inherent instability of contemporary art. Art always strives for new forms of expression while simultaneously revealing its fragility and unwavering belief in the values and beauty of the world.”
