CYPRUS WILLING TO JOIN MULTINATIONAL UKRAINE PEACEKEEPING FORCE, BUT RULES OUT CYPRIOT TROOP DEPLOYMENT

 in-cyprus 28 March 2025

Cyprus has expressed willingness to participate in a multinational formation responsible for monitoring peace and security in Ukraine, Deputy Government Spokesman Yiannis Antoniou told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).

The statement follows President Christodoulides’ remarks during yesterday’s Ukraine peace summit hosted by Paris.

Antoniou, who is accompanying the President in Paris, specified that Nicosia’s contribution “could be at an administrative-support level” for humanitarian missions, potentially involving personnel from the National Guard or Police.

“Under no circumstances does the Republic of Cyprus intend to provide troops,” Antoniou said.

The Deputy Spokesman noted that during yesterday’s Summit on Peace and Security in Ukraine, President Christodoulides expressed Cyprus’ readiness to contribute to a formation with a mandate from the United Nations Security Council to monitor security in Ukraine following a peace agreement.

This approach would follow the model of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), according to Antoniou.
