The Police received new complaints from citizens yesterday, in relation to telephone fraud attempts by persons posing as doctors. As in previous cases, the fraudsters communicate with citizens by phone and, pretending to be doctors, falsely state that a relative of the people who answer the phone call has been injured and needs immediate surgery or other medical care. They then ask citizens to immediately pay large sums of money for medical expenses.
Usually, they call from a hidden call and ask citizens not to interrupt the phone call, as a result of which they cannot contact their relative or the Police.
Therefore, and on the occasion of these new complaints, the Police recommends special attention, stressing again that such telephone communications and allegations are false and aim to deceive the public and extract large sums of money.
In case any person receives such phone calls, they should immediately inform the Police, by contacting the nearest Police Station or the District Police Stations, or the Citizen's Line, at the telephone number 1460.
