He admitted that he took the money from the elderly woman outside a church in Limassol, but denies that he knew about the fraud that had been set up, claiming that he was receiving instructions from his alleged employer. The 60-year-old suspect, who was arrested in connection with the case of the pseudo-doctor in Limassol, who extorted money and jewellery from an elderly woman on March 19, 2025, was brought on Sunday morning (23/3) before the Limassol District Court, which ordered his detention for a period of 8 days.

As Filenews is informed, the authorities traced the suspect after investigations carried out in the area of the Metropolis in Limassol and examinations carried out in closed circuit surveillance. After a photograph of the person in question was obtained, it was then published in a closed implementation team of the Limassol ADE, where a police officer identified the person as the suspect, as it was a person who had recently committed traffic violations.

The 60-year-old was located and arrested at noon on Saturday. In a physical search of his vehicle, the amount of money of €2,875 was found, plus  jewellery resembling stolen property/ When this was brought to his attention, the suspect replied: "It's the bag of jewellery that the old woman gave me."
After consenting, the 60-year-old handed over his mobile phone for checking, where a written conversation with the owner of a specific number was found through the WhatsApp app, where it was found that he was receiving instructions.

Questioned, the 60-year-old admitted that he is the person who presented himself to the elderly woman and received the money. He claimed that during the month of February through Facebook he spotted an ad asking for an employee in Limassol from an aluminium company abroad. After sending a message expressing interest, in March he received a call from a specific number and from an unknown person, who introduced himself as George and claimed to be the owner of the company. He asked him if he was interested in the position he had seen in the ad. According to the suspect, he responded positively and the stranger explained his duties, saying that he would go to customers to take measures for windows and doors and record the measurements, while receiving a salary of €1,500. Later, his supposed employer mentioned that he would start work immediately and receive money from what customers would give him for the jobs he would send him to do.

Among other things, he mentioned that the stranger contacted him to go to the Catholic Church in Limassol, where a customer would be waiting for him. The suspect went to the entrance of the church and located the elderly woman. When she asked him if it was the person George had sent, he answered in the affirmative and took a bag and an envelope from the complainant, without seeing their contents. During the following days and until his arrest, he claimed that the unknown person who sent him to get the money asked him to send it to him in Athens, where his company allegedly had offices.

The 60-year-old admitted that from the money he received, he used a large amount for his own benefit, while he stated ignorance of the intentions of the unknown "George" and the fraud, saying that he only received instructions from his alleged employer.

It is recalled that the complainant received a phone call from an unknown man, who spoke Greek, and introduced himself to her under the name George, saying that he was a doctor at the Limassol General Hospital. He informed her that her grandson had been involved in a serious accident and was at risk of limbs being amputated, unless the amount of €80,000 was paid for the transport of a transplant from abroad.

Convinced by the stranger's words, she went to the area of the Metropolis in Limassol, where she met with the 60-year-old man, to whom she handed over the sum of  €5,500 in cash, as well as various jewellery and gold items worth about €10,000. The complainant, after returning to her home, contacted a relative of hers, where she found out that she had been deceived and filed a complaint.
