Police have arrested a 50-year-old man in connection with a major drug seizure case dating back to March 2023, following his handover from British Bases authorities.

According to a police statement released Wednesday, the suspect was detained on Tuesday, March 18, after British Bases officials transferred him to Cyprus Police custody in relation to a case involving more than four kilogrammes of narcotics seized in Larnaca.

The arrest was executed under a judicial warrant as part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking operations in the region.

Along with the suspect, British Bases authorities handed over €128,150 in cash, 442 grammes of cannabis, and additional evidence relevant to the investigation.

Two other individuals, aged 39 and 28, were previously convicted in connection with the same case by the Larnaca Permanent Assize Court on November 14, 2024, receiving prison sentences of eight and nine years respectively.

The 50-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court for a detention hearing where authorities will seek a remand order.

The Police arrested a 45-year-old woman yesterday, in order to facilitate the investigations regarding three investigated cases, extortion of money through false representations.

The three cases were committed in the Nicosia district, between July 2024 and February 2025. According to the complaints made to the Nicosia TAE, the 45-year-old allegedly received money from her alleged victims, under the pretext of providing various services or mediating for the purchase of cars, products and travel tickets. In this way, she allegedly obtained the total amount of about €20,000.

In targeted checks carried out by the Police on Wednesday evening, they arrested three people for various offenses, including possession of drugs, burglary tools and traffic violations.

🔹 Arrest of a 21-year-old Greek Cypriot :
Members of the force found burglary tools in his possession, while in a subsequent drug test , he tested positive for drugs . At the same time, it was found that he had committed traffic violations , such as driving without lights on.

🔹 Arrest of a 20-year-old from Syria :
During the check, the young man was in possession of two factory-made firecrackers and a small amount of cannabis , while he was driving with a learner's license .

🔹 Arrest of a 44-year-old Greek Cypriot : A half-smoked cannabis cigarette
was found in his possession , as well as another small quantity of the same substance .  The three suspects were taken into custody, while authorities continue their investigations for further evidence related to the cases.

The Paphos Police arrested four individuals early Thursday morning in order to facilitate the investigations into an ongoing case of illegal residence and employment in Paphos. According to the Police, the arrest of the four who were living and working illegally in Paphos was carried out as part of a coordinated operation by members of the Paphos Aliens and Immigration Service. Further examinations revealed that all four had expired residence permits and had been residing and working illegally in the Republic for the past few months. The four are being held in custody while procedures for their deportation are underway.

The Police proceeded to the arrest of a 32-year-old man, who was wanted for facilitating the investigations, regarding cases of extortion of money through false representations and robbery committed between the dates 13-20/03/2025, in Nicosia.

According to the data under investigation, the 32-year-old allegedly extorted money from food distributors and taxi drivers with various tricks.

Two Omonia players filed a complaint with the Police yesterday, after the interruption of the football game between AEL and Omonia.

According to information, the two footballers complained that they were attacked by AEL fans. As Filenews is informed, the two footballers underwent examinations, but they did not appear to have any trauma.

It is recalled that yesterday, after tension on the floor, a portion of the home fans entered the pitch and it was decided to permanently interrupt the football game between AEL and Omonia.

Now, the fate of the match will be decided by the Sports Judge.

The Police made a new arrest for usurpation of Greek Cypriot property.

He is a 40-year-old man, who was arrested yesterday by the Police, in the context of an investigation into a case of usurpation of Greek Cypriot property located in the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus.

The 40-year-old was located at Larnaca airport, where he went yesterday morning to depart for another European country. He was arrested under a court warrant for his arrest.

The following offences are being investigated against him:

  1. Conspiracy to commit a felony
  2. Conspiracy to defraud
  3. Fraudulent transactions in real estate owned by another person

The case has been taken over by the Crime Detection Department (TAE) of the Headquarters, which continues the examinations.

Cyprus Police

Police officers arrested a 47-year-old man last night after finding in his possession a number of gold and jewellery, which are being investigated as stolen property. Burglary tools and duty-free tobacco products were also found in the 47-year-old's possession. Specifically, following information regarding burglaries and thefts, members of the National Police, at around 8:00 on Thursday evening, stopped the 47-year-old, as well as a 55-year-old man, for a check in an area in the Nicosia district. Immediately earlier, the Police members noticed the 55-year-old giving the 47-year-old a bag. A search followed in the car in which the 47-year-old was traveling, where, among other things, various gold and jewellery, duty-free tobacco products, pairs of fabric gloves, two hoods, as well as a case with various burglary tools were found. Since the 47-year-old did not give satisfactory explanations for their possession, he was arrested for the flagrant offenses of illegal possession of property and possession of burglary tools. A search was also carried out in the 55-year-old's car, where duty-free tobacco products were found. He was summoned and followed the police to the Nicosia Customs and Excise Department offices, where officers from the Customs Department were summoned and attended. The customs officers charged the 55-year-old extrajudicially for possession of duty-free tobacco products. Nicosia Customs and Excise Department continues its investigations.
