An incredible scheme through rented apartments located on the platform "Airbnb" was allegedly set up by a 31-year-old suspect, who, in addition to renting these apartments for a few days and staying for free with virtual payments, also stole their televisions.
The 31-year-old was arrested and brought before the Limassol Court yesterday for a detention order. The court approved the request, however, limited it to a period of 4 days instead of the 7 days requested by the Police. The suspect is being investigated for the offences of theft by a tenant and obtaining goods by false representations for 4 cases.
According to the complaint of one of the 4 complainants and owner of an apartment, the suspect allegedly rented the apartment in question through airbnb from 1/11/2024 until 7/11/2024, while asking the owner to stay for an additional week. According to the complaint, the suspect sent a photograph, claiming that he made a transfer of €1,440 through a Cypriot bank, however, it was found that this never took place.
On 14/11, the suspect sent a message to the owner claiming that he hosted a relative in the apartment, but without giving his details, and that the said person stole from the apartment 3 TVs worth €4,500. He also stated that he was in a clinic during the period in question. Following the complaint of the complainant to the ICF of Limassol, members of the Police went for on-site examinations while it was found that he was not hospitalized during the period he reported, in a private clinic.
The suspect appears to have made fraud a profession, as after a month he booked two more apartments in Limassol through a specific website, sending false payment receipts of €1,100 for two weeks. It was found that the payments had never been made. During the check made by the owner of the apartment, it was found that a TV worth €500 was missing. The suspect was called to explain and claimed that he accidentally broke the TV and would compensate him. He sent the complainant a transfer receipt, but it was found that the transfer never took place.
He repeated the same scheme in the fourth case, where he rented an apartment in February for a week and stole 3 TVs worth €1,200.

A 21-year-old Syrian man was charged yesterday until the start of his trial before the Limassol District Court in relation to terrorist material posted on social media concerning the promotion of a terrorist organization and threats.
The case was registered in court, however, investigations by the ICF Limassol in relation to forensic examinations and analysis of data from the mobile phone found in the suspect's possession are ongoing, in an effort to determine whether he is linked to persons of terrorist organizations.
The 21-year-old faces offences of incitement to commit terrorism offences and the case was set for hearing next week.
As Filenews previously reported, the 21-year-old interrogator claimed to be the one depicted in the videos posted on Instagram, but denied uploading them from his own account. He claimed to have sent the material to a friend in Syria, who then edited and posted it.
The case came to the attention of the authorities after receiving information received by the Anti-Terrorism Office of the Police Headquarters, that the owner of an Instagram account, with a specific IP address, had made posts that included death threats and terrorist material. There were six threatening videos with threatening content that said: "We're going to cut off your head." The investigation found that the footage depicted the 21-year-old's face, as well as photos of guns, knives, the Koran and Islamic State flags.

A very serious case of attack by a banned dog is brought to light by Filenews, following a complaint by a female collector, which happened last Monday. The woman was attacked by a dog while she was at a house she had gone to collect money, resulting in a serious injury to her arm and fractured by the bite of the dog, a Pitt Bull breed.
The incident took place at a house in the Limassol area when the collector had gone after a scheduled appointment to collect a monthly instalment of debts. After entering the said residence and sitting on the couch to issue the receipt, suddenly the dog, while in the basement of the house, entered the living room and attacked her. The woman reacted and got up from the couch while putting her hand forward to protect herself. Then, the dog attacked her, biting her on the arm.
"After superhuman efforts made by a relative of the dog's owner, he managed to open the dog's mouth and release my hand. I tried to leave the residence and the dog attacked me again, grabbing me by my right hand. Thankfully, he didn't shut his mouth to bite me again," she said. After leaving the residence, she began screaming for help, while she claims she was bleeding profusely.
The woman was then transferred to a private hospital in the city and admitted to surgery, as, in addition to bleeding, she had suffered a fracture in the bone of her left hand from the dog's bite. After 4 days of hospitalization, she was discharged today.
It should be noted that the hospital informed the Police about the incident to investigate the case, while the Veterinary Services were also informed.
According to reliable information on our website, officers of the Veterinary Services went to the residence to examine the dog and its aggressive tendencies. After appropriate action, it appears to have been found to bear the characteristics of a dog of the prohibited breeds. In particular, it was found that characteristics of the dangerous Pitt Bull breed prevailed.
According to the Dogs Law, there are 4 prohibited breeds and their cross breeds. Under this legislation, if a veterinary officer detects aggressive tendencies towards a dog belonging to the prohibited/dangerous breeds, then the dog is arrested by the competent local authority, which in this case is the Limassol Municipality, and is euthanized. The same information indicates that to date this has not been done.
