Voters over a hundred years old will be removed from the voting registry if they are not receiving a pension, the interior ministry said on Friday, explaining that an amendment to the law currently in the pipeline aimed at clearing 695 cases of voters whose death had not been reported.
The ministry said that if an individual is removed but is proved to be alive, then that person will be re-registered and not removed for another three years.
It added that the provision is included in a bundle of 13 bills with amendments aiming at regulating automatic registration and setting the legal voting age at 17.
