An archaeological museum in the area of Agios Georgios Peyia, in order to house and highlight the important antiquities of Cape Drepanon, is under study by the competent state departments.

The museum has an estimated cost of  €1.5 million, an amount that will be entirely donated by the company Korantina Homes and its owner, Giorgos Ioannou.

Speaking to "F", on the sidelines of the event on the antiquities of Cape Drepanon that took place last night, the Mayor of Akamas Marinos Lambrou stressed that the museum will be erected at the expense of Mr. Ioannou, as a continuation of his significant donations to the area of Peyia where he comes from and in which he is active. At this time, he said, the issue is being examined by the competent state departments and expressed the hope that soon we will have the political decisions for the implementation of the large donation.

The main speaker at the event, during which the results of the archaeological investigations, the early Christian basilicas, the baptistery and the necropolis of Cape Drepanon, were presented, was Professor Bakirtzis. As the Greek head of the excavations pointed out, the area has been inhabited since the early Christian years, but it flourished during the period of Justinian, i.e. during the 6th century A.D. Especially regarding the baptismal font found in the area, Professor Bakirtzis stressed that it was found that Christians from all regions of the Mediterranean were baptized in it
