It may be a little while to go until the summer months but the high temperatures recently make it feel as if it has already arrived. Very soon, the cultural agenda is about to fill with festivals of all kinds, concerts, theatre productions and fiestas. Among the summer’s first music happenings is a concert series by the beloved musician Alkinoos Ioannidis in early June.
Nicosia and Limassol audiences will get to enjoy the Cypriot musician, joined on stage by four other Cypriot artists — new companions of Ioannides who bring a fresh approach to his songs through the sounds of strings, percussion, and electronic instruments. They are Marios Takoushis on keyboards, Lefteris Moumtzis on bass, Yiannis Koutis on oud, guitar and percussion and Nikolas Tsangaris on drums.
The summer concerts are scheduled for June 6 at the Lakatamia Municipal Amphitheatre and June 7 at the Curium Ancient Theatre, both starting at 9pm. With new arrangements, the concerts’ programme is marked by moments of great intensity and emotion, as well as the joy of this musical gathering – the connection between the musicians and the audience, the freedom of improvisation and the fusion of different musical worlds. Tickets are already on sale online and in stores as this concert is only the beginning of what looks to be another eventful summer in Cyprus.
