On average, GHS specialist doctors record annual salaries, in total for outpatient and inpatient services, of €170,000 each.
However, the amounts show very significant fluctuations between the various medical specialties, with surgical specialties reaching up to €250,000 from outpatient care alone, with a consequent significant increase, if the inpatient services offered by these doctors are added.
The budget of the Health Insurance Organization provides for a budget of €246 million for 2025 for the outpatient care offered by the more than 2,000 specialist doctors of the GHS.
The annual remuneration per specialty is determined both by the amount of the budget for the specific specialty, and by the number of available doctors in this specialty.
According to this year's budget, doctors specialising in nuclear medicine will receive an average of €258,000 each. The number of doctors available in this specialty is 12 and the budget is €3.1 million.
The nine paediatric cardiologists will share €2.2 million, while the 57 doctors specialising in gastroenterology will receive, on average, €214,000 from their outpatient services, with the specialty's budget budgeted at €12.2 million.
In the same way, the annual allowances of doctors differ between specialties with the specialties of neurology and paediatric neurology reaching €80,000, on average (90 doctors, most of them neurologists, with a budget of €7.2 million, the specialty of child psychiatry €37,500 per year and on the other side the specialty of pathological anatomy reaching €187,000 per doctor (budget €5.6 million and 30 doctors).
In addition to the €100,000 for outpatient services, it is expected that doctors belonging to the specialties of ophthalmology will receive an average of €146,000 (among other specialties).
The budget for this specialty reaches €18.5 million and the number of available doctors in the GHS is 127), cardiology (€127,000, with a budget of €29.9 million and 234 doctors in the GHS), dermatology (€126,000, with a budget of €9.7 million and 77 available doctors), endocrinology (€114,000, with a budget of €3.3 million). and 29 doctors), pulmonology (€104,000, with a budget of €8.4 million and 82 doctors), rheumatology (€120,000, with a budget of €2.9 million and 24 available doctors).
As far as the personal doctors of the GHS are concerned, the amounts differ as well as the way they are compensated by the HIO is different and based on the philosophy and architecture of the System, they are not paid per service but per capita and on the basis of qualitative criteria and performance indicators.
Given that most of the compensation of personal doctors is calculated on the basis of the number (and age) of beneficiaries who are registered on their list, it is estimated that on average adult personal doctors in 2025 will receive €127,000 and paediatricians €126,000. The budget for adult personal doctors amounts to €79.2 million, and for paediatricians €26.4 million.
It is worth mentioning, of course, that for adult personal doctors, the average number of registered beneficiaries is 1300 per doctor, while for paediatricians 860 children.
