THE SOCIAL AXIS OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF PAFOS

 Pafos Live 12 February 2025

The municipality of Pafos aims to create an axis of social intervention in the area of Kato Pervolia, in the district of Mouttalos with three different projects.

It is a model centre for the elderly with the possibility of accommodation in the evenings for 60 elderly people, 140 houses for refugee families and young couples with low incomes and a centre for people with special needs.

The first of these, which is already planned, on privately owned land of the municipality, will include, according to the mayor of Pafos, a day care and accommodation centre for the elderly. The day center will be able to accommodate daily for creative activities, excursions, lessons and recreation, more than 300 elderly, while at least sixty will stay in the evenings in separate rooms with all amenities. The most costly project will be the creation of a settlement of 140 apartments planned by the local authority on Turkish Cypriot land with financing from the European Investment Bank.

Beneficiaries will be refugees living in unsuitable housing in the neighbourhood as well as young couples who will meet the criteria. In the same area, the municipality of Pafos in cooperation with the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare seeks to create a permanent infrastructure for people with disabilities. It is the daily agony, he explained, of the parents of these children, what will become of them when they pass away.

The mayor of Pafos explained that he is more concerned with the operating costs and not so much with the creation of this center, for which the state should also contribute.
