How does time leave its mark on people, spaces, objects and memory? The exhibition Pandamátor: Life Flows Dragging Houses and Crops brings together 16 contemporary artists from across Cyprus who explore the passage of time through sculpture, installation, painting, drawing, photography, textiles and new media.
Taking place in a now-vacant private gynaecological clinic in Limassol, this new exhibition examines transformation, decay and the traces left behind. Curated by Nefeli Stylianou, it will run from March 9 to 23.
The exhibition is housed in a modernist building on Praxandrou street that itself reflects the cyclical nature of life. Designed by architect Fotis Colakides and completed in 1964, it operated as a private gynaecological and obstetrics clinic for most of its existence before later being repurposed into a nursing home for the elderly. Its trajectory – from a site of birth to an end-of-life care, and now a vacant decaying space – embodies the inevitable passage of time.
Building on the venue’s history, the exhibition explores time’s irreversibility, transformative impact, and its dual role as both a force of destruction and renewal. It examines how time shapes individuals, human creations and natural landscapes, inviting viewers to reflect on its role in personal experience as well as in collective history and memory. Its title is drawn from the ancient Greek phrase Pandamátor Khrónos, meaning ‘time, which tames everything, which conquers all’ – a phrase with variations across many languages, reflecting how different societies have long recognised time’s universal yet deeply personal nature.
The exhibition features works by Nikolas Antoniou, Andri Andreou, Rafaella Constantinou, Andrea Evangelou, Elina Hadjinikola, Avraam Hirodontis, Nicolas Iordanou, Liza Kara, Orestis Kalvaris, Christina Papakyriacou, Yiannis Sakellis, Panicos Spanos, Yorgos Taxiarchopoulos, Irene Zenonos, Franc and Yeti Yeti.
A series of parallel events will also run. On March 16, an architectural presentation and tour by architect Phidias Pavlides will take place at 5pm while two guided tours will take place on March 15 (in English) and on March 22 (in Greek). Both will start at 5pm.
A few days before the exhibition closes its doors, an Artists Talk will be held as an opportunity for the public to meet the creatives and get an insight into the exhibition’s concept. It will take place on March 19 at 6.30pm, hosted in Greek.
