The authorities of Larnaka airport are on red alert after a plane that landed from Moldova was taken to a special area for inspection, due to information that a suspicious person is on board.
The aircraft was scheduled to land at Larnaka airport and shortly before landing an alarm was raised when there were reports of suspicious movements on it.
Security measures were immediately taken during its landing and large forces of the Police and Fire Brigade were mobilized.
So far, although there have been some reports of hijacking, Cypriot authorities have not officially confirmed anything.
Government sources told filenews that there was a tip regarding a suspicious passenger that needed to be investigated, which is why the Cypriot authorities were mobilized. They clarified, however, that this was not a hijacking incident.
Larnaka Airport remained closed for less than an hour and some flights were diverted to Paphos. However, as we were told, all the necessary protocols were implemented by the Department of Civil Aviation and its operation was made possible.
The Minister of Justice, Marios Hartsiotis, in statements on the show "Mera Mesimeri", said that the incident is now being handled by the Police, who are questioning the suspect.
