A group exhibition opening Women’s Day presents works by a variety of artists. Titled HER, the exhibition opens at Lumiere Contemporary Art Gallery on March 8.

Featuring painting, sculpture, jewellery, and textiles, the showcase explores the diverse representations of the female figure, blending abstract, figurative and realistic perspectives through the eyes of 17 artists. The artists are: Maria Diamantopoulou, Demosthenis M, Christina Drakos, Aristos Christoforou, Olga Litvinenko, Angelina Guez, Nikolas Antoniou, Frederique Tristant, Marjorie Eagan, Marina Suzdaltseva, Machia Genethliou, Andreas Morphis, Arthur Dujols-Luquet, Susan Kay, Iphigenia Papageorgiou, Kinkas Caetano and Pascalis Anastasi.

“Drawing on the creative talents of artists from countries such as Brazil, Cyprus, Greece, France, Russia, the United States and beyond,” say organisers, HER offers a kaleidoscope of interpretations that celebrate the essence of femininity. From fluid abstractions to strikingly realistic portraits, and from timeless icons to bold reimaginings, the artworks reflect the depth, complexity and power of the feminine identity.”

More specifically, the artworks are inspired by significant women who have shaped the world and also mythology. The powerful figures of Helen of Troy and Cleopatra are two of them as well as Marie Curie’s intellect, the philosophies of Simone de Beauvoir and the brave artistic and life acts of Frida Kahlo who embodies a restful, resilient feminine spirit.

“HER serves as a testament to the universality of the female experience,” add organisers, “while also embracing its unique cultural expressions. Through the dialogue between these diverse artistic styles, the exhibition invites viewers to engage with themes of beauty, strength, vulnerability and resilience, embodied in both historical heroines and contemporary interpretations.”
