ETAP AND THE COMMUNITY OF MANDRIA INNOVATE PLANTING ON A BEACH FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND FOR NATURAL SHADING Following an initiative by the Pafos Region Tourism Development and Promotion Company in collaboration with the Mandria Community Council and the guidance of the Forestry Department, a tree planting was held today, February 10, 2025, at the Mandria Community Beach. Students from the 5th and 6th grades of the Mandria Primary School as well as educators were present and voluntarily helped to plant 50 Tamarisks (Tamarix smyrnensis) along the entire length of the beach as the first phase of tree planting.
Such an initiative is the first to be implemented in the annals of Pafos tourism, since a bathing beach is essentially enriched with trees with the ultimate goal of protecting the environment and providing natural shading.
Planting trees on beaches offers a wide range of ecological, environmental and social benefits, including erosion control and coastal stabilization, promotes biodiversity and enhances both environmental and social well-being, contributes to climate change mitigation, landscape beauty, etc. We thank everyone who contributed, the President of the Community and the Secretary, the staff, the Department of Forestry, the Environment and Fisheries Services for their positive views and support. Special thanks to the students of the Mandria Primary School who contributed to creating this green lung for environmental protection.
The beach is expected to be further enriched in the coming years with the main goal of upgrading it to a model beach, with excellent access and services, distinguished by a blue flag.
