The voluntary enlistment of women in the ranks of the National Guard was approved today by the Council of Ministers.
Immediately after the meeting, the Minister of Defence, Vasilis Palmas, announced that the government's decision represents the evolution and modernization of the Armed Forces, while it is an important step for everyone's participation in the country's defence and security.
The Minister of Defence explained the points of the bill that will be presented to Parliament for approval and said that the first voluntary enlistment of women is expected to take place in early October 2025.
Palmas also stressed that the possibility of two phases of voluntary enlistment of women is being examined.
