Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare, Antonia Theodosiou was in Paphos today and met with officials of the local authorities of the province with the aim of creating a shelter for stray dogs.
Mrs. Theodosiou revealed that some plots have been found that are potentially suitable for the creation of the shelter, the operation of which could be financed by the Ministry of Agriculture. The issue of stray dog management is huge, according to Ms. Theodosiou who indicated that local authorities by law have a great responsibility in managing this issue. She said temporary storage facilities were also part of management.
She also indicated that in addition to the shelter to be created by local authorities, with a minimum capacity of 100 animals, private ones, most of which rely on volunteers, should continue to operate. It is recalled that from the first days of his election, the municipal councillor of the municipality of Pafos, Antonis Christodoulou, had developed a provincial initiative on this issue.
