President Christodoulides led informal discussions on Saturday focusing on strengthening the personal doctor system and reforming emergency departments within the General Health System (GHS).
The talks addressed concerns about how beneficiaries use personal doctor services and physicians’ response to patient needs, according to sources familiar with the meeting.
A second major focus was the government’s decision to create different categories of emergency departments, exploring various implementation approaches.
The meeting also examined the State Health Services Organisation’s progress, with Christodoulides expected to hold a separate official meeting with the organisation and the health and finance ministers to evaluate the implementation of plans for hospital financial recovery and autonomy.
The Saturday gathering included the ministers of health, finance, and interior – the latter having previously served as health minister – along with the auditor general, former director of the Health Insurance Organisation, and the president of the Cyprus Medical Association.
While views were exchanged during the meeting, no formal decisions were made, sources said.
