A minor was handcuffed last night when an off-duty police officer spotted him displaying an air pistol to his friends at Limassol Marina.

According to police, the incident took place around 9:45 p.m., when the officer noticed a group of youths wandering around the area, with one of them holding a gun and pointing it at the others. Approaching them, the police officer searched the minor's bag where he found the air pistol, as well as a firecracker.

The 15-year-old was arrested on the spot and taken to the Limassol Police Headquarters, where his mother was called. During the interrogation, the minor admitted that he had ordered the weapon through an online platform in Greece for the amount of €300, while he also presented the proof of payment to the police.

Police arrested a 38-year-old resident of Nicosia last night to facilitate investigations into a total of 17 cases of damage to cars and theft committed in the districts of Nicosia and Larnaka.

Sixteen of the above cases were committed on the night between 7 and 8 February 2025, in the area of Lakatamia, in Nicosia district. The 16 cases were reported yesterday morning to the police by the owners of the vehicles. According to the complainants, unknown persons damaged their vehicles by breaking the glass of the passenger door.

In fact, in three of the above cases, it was reported that money and other items were stolen from the vehicles. Specifically, 30 vehicle keys were stolen from a car sales office owner's vehicle, a sum of money was stolen from a second vehicle and a number of perfumes were stolen from a third car.

As part of the investigation of the above cases and after evaluating testimony, an operation was set up last night in the above area to locate the perpetrator. Around 10:40 p.m. was found on a road in Lakatamia and stopped for inspection, a car driven by a 38-year-old resident of Nicosia. As found against the 38-year-old, a judicial arrest warrant was pending, for a similar case, committed on January 22, 2025, in Larnaca.

The 38-year-old was arrested under the court warrant, while a subsequent search of his car found and seized 36 car keys, six pairs of sunglasses, three watches and a tool for breaking glass. As a result, the 38-year-old was also re-arrested for the offence of illegal possession of property.

The examinations continue from the Lakatameia Police Station and the Aradippou Police Station.

The Fire Service responded to 48 incidents, 26 fires and 22 special services in the last 24 hours.

According to the spokesperson of the Service, Andreas Kettis, yesterday at 14:13 a response was needed from the Limassol Rural Fire Stations (Pachna, Kyvides and Moniatis) with four staffed fire brigades for a fire of four tens of wild vegetation, Southwest of the Community of Koilani and near the cemetery. The fire was brought under control at 2:40 p.m. The causes are being investigated in cooperation with the Police.

At 15:26, the Limassol fire stations responded with two staffed fire trucks for a fire in a pile of waste materials, on the ground floor of an abandoned house, in Agios Athanasios. To extinguish the fire, our members used water pipes and breathing apparatus. "A search was carried out at the site for any trapped people, fortunately to no avail. It appears that the fire was set deliberately. The causes are being investigated."

At 15:52 the Nicosia fire stations responded with two staffed fire trucks for a fire in an auxiliary kitchen of a two-storey house in Lakatamia. From the fire, extensive damage was suffered to the auxiliary kitchen area and its contents, while from smoke and heat, the masonry of the house was also damaged. To extinguish the fire, our members used water pipes and breathing apparatus. The fire is believed to have started from an electrical fire. The causes are being investigated.

At 19:01 the fire stations of Larnaka had to respond with two manned fire trucks for a fire in a private vehicle which was parked in front of the owner's house in Larnaca. The fire caused extensive damage to the passenger compartment. The exact cause is being investigated by the Police.

At 19:38 we had a response from Larnaka fire stations with two manned fire trucks for an unidentified motorcycle in the parking lot of the church of Agios Eleftherios in Larnaka. The fire caused extensive damage to the motorcycle. The cause is being investigated by the Police.
