A threatening message to the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, is behind the search warrant that, as we revealed yesterday, was executed in ward 10 of the Central Prison.
According to Friday's Filenews report, the police warrant was executed at 02:00 in the morning on Friday and during the operation, objects that were in the cell of Simon Mistriel Aykut, the person under trial in a case of large-scale usurpation of Greek Cypriot property, were seized.
All our sources of information from competent persons link yesterday's operation with a threatening message sent by an unknown person concerning a prisoner in the penitentiary. However, due to the fact that the case that arose is characterized as a matter of the highest national security, the appropriate attitude is taken by all those responsible.
Besides, as we had noted in our report yesterday on the investigation, the initial information linked it to security reasons.
As we are aware, a television and a personal agenda were taken from the cell of the 74-year-old defendant.
Update - On social media, it appears that the threats against the President of the Republic were sent and are related to a case that is currently being tried.
Philenews reports that the threatening message to President Christodoulides was sent via a mobile phone number that is not linked to the Cypriot number, while the authorities also know the provider.
Based on this finding, it was clarified that the message was not sent from the prisons, nor from the documents received last Friday from the police investigations, this is evident.
Investigations into this serious case, since it concerns threats against the first citizen of the Republic, are ongoing, in order to ascertain exactly where the message was sent from, i.e. through which e-mail address.
Security measures for the President are clearly increased, but he has not restricted his movements, nor changed his schedule.
Confirming the threats he received last night, he said he had confidence in the authorities.
