A quantity of cannabis exceeding one kilogram, as well as a number of military weapon cartridges, was found and confiscated yesterday by YKAN, in Nicosia. A 34-year-old man was arrested to facilitate interrogations.
After evaluating information, members of the YKAN and the Police Dog Branch of the MMAD conducted a search at a warehouse, maintained by the 34-year-old, in a rural area in the Nicosia district. During the search, five full 7.62mm caliber cartridges, two nylon bags, containing cannabis, with a total gross weight of 1134 grams, a container with a small amount of cannabis and a mobile phone were located and seized.
A search followed at his home in Nicosia, where three pieces of solid substance, with a gross weight of one gram, were located and seized.
The 34-year-old was arrested for the offence of illegal possession of property and taken into custody, while tomorrow he is expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court for a detention order.

A 49-year-old man was arrested by members of the Police in connection with an investigated case of car arson, committed yesterday in Limassol.
According to the evidence under investigation, shortly before 1.30 am on Sunday, a fire broke out in a car, which was parked on the street outside the residence of its owner, in Limassol. The fire was extinguished by members of the Fire Brigade, while examinations carried out at the scene by the Police and the Fire Brigade, found that the fire had been set maliciously.
Subsequent police examinations revealed evidence against the 49-year-old. A judicial arrest warrant was issued against him, under which he was arrested shortly before 9.00 pm on Sunday and taken into custody for the purpose of investigating the case.

The origin of a large amount of money, which was found yesterday in a house in Nicosia, is being investigated by the Police. To facilitate the investigations, a 33-year-old woman was arrested for the offence of illegal possession of property, while the offence of money laundering is also being investigated against her.
Specifically, during a search conducted yesterday by the YKAN, at the 33-year-old's home, a safe was found in the bathroom of the house, carefully hidden. Inside the safe, the sum of €126,360 was found and confiscated, for which the 33-year-old did not give adequate explanations for their origin.
As a result, the 33-year-old was arrested for a flagrant offence. She was taken to the offices of the YKAN, where she was questioned in writing and then released to be summoned later.
