WEATHER UNTIL THE WEEKEND

 A veil of fog covered areas of Nicosia early Monday morning (13/01) giving an impressive scenery, which is expected to continue in the coming days.

Speaking to Filenews, the officer of the Meteorological Service, Andreas Chrysanthou, said that fog will be the main phenomenon of the coming days, during the morning and evening hours, affecting areas in the interior and east, while isolated rains are expected to affect the island today and Thursday.

Asked if the snow that is advancing in Greece will affect Cyprus, Mr. Chrysanthou replied negatively. On the contrary, as he said, there is not expected to be a change in the weather until the weekend, while the temperature will be 3-4 degrees above normal for the season.

Therefore, in the coming days we will not see snowfall in Troodos, with the height of snow on the highest peaks being at this time at 12 cm.

In the atmosphere, dilute dust will be suspended from time to time.                                                                                                                                                                                  In the afternoon, the weather will be partly cloudy and in places temporarily cloudy, while isolated showers are expected. The winds will blow mainly southeast to southwest and on the north coast north to northeast, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be calm until a little turbulent.                                                                                                                                                                                                         Tonight, the weather will be mostly clear, with increased low clouds in places. Later and during the dawn hours, fog is expected to form locally, especially in areas of the interior and the east, where visibility will be temporarily limited. The winds will become northwest to northeast and on the north coast southeast, weak, 3 Beaufort. The sea will remain calm until a little turbulent. The temperature will drop to around 9 degrees in the interior, around 11 degrees on the coast and around 4 degrees in the higher mountains, where frost is expected to form locally.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Tomorrow, the weather will be mostly clear with locally increased clouds, while in the morning hours, locally fog will prevail, especially in areas of the interior and in the east, where visibility will be temporarily limited. The winds will blow mainly northeast to southeast and in the west in the afternoon southwest to northwest, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to a little turbulent, but in the north and east, it will temporarily be a little turbulent. The temperature will rise around 19 degrees in the interior, around 21 degrees on the coast and around 12 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Wednesday, the weather will remain mostly clear with locally increased clouds. On Thursday, locally increased clouds will be observed intermittently, which after noon may give isolated rain.

On Friday, the weather will be mostly clear, with locally increased clouds at times.

The temperature until Thursday is not expected to change significantly, to continue to fluctuate above the average climatic values of the season. On Friday, a slight drop in temperature is expected. The height of snow on the highest peaks of Troodos, at the time of issue of the bulletin, was 12 cm
