With seasonal infections and especially influenza, RSV and Covid-19 bedridden young and old and the Accident and Emergency Departments constantly under enormous pressure, especially during weekends due to the absence of a large number of personal doctors and paediatricians, the Health Insurance Organisation, at the request of the Ministry of Health, extends the opening hours of the GHS on-call clinics.
Specifically, as the deputy director general of the HIO, Konstantinos Panayides, told Filenews, "this decision was taken last night, at the request of the Ministry of Health, and the on-call clinics will operate on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, for as long as necessary, from 10:00 in the morning until 6:00 in the afternoon (now operating from 11:00 to 17:00).
"The Agency responded promptly to the Ministry's request. We understand that there is a problem and so we are proceeding with this arrangement in order to help and contribute to the treatment of the outbreak of seasonal infections with the aim of decongesting the TAEP and serving our beneficiaries more easily".
