February is already around the corner and it brings with it a rich agenda of events. Along with new and established annual events, the season celebrates local produce, fruits and nuts that are in season. Among the various festivals celebrating the island’s goods, there are two mandarin festivals coming up in rural villages.
The Arakapas Mandarin Festival on February 2 will be the second edition of the festival that the Limassol district village organises. In true traditional Cypriot fashion, the one-day festival will have music, dancing, singing and, of course, a wide range of treats that feature the mandarin. Women from the village and artisans from nearby areas will set up stalls showcasing their creations that highlight the fruit in different ways.
The event will last all day, from 10am to 7pm and will include entertainment by Andri Karantoni and Michali Hadjimichail, a live link from Radio Proto and surprises for old and young.
In its turn, Dierona village’s Community Council will also host a mandarin festival a few weeks later. This will be a two-day occasion and the fifth year the village organises the event. Held on March 8 and 9, the festival will entertain visitors with live traditional performances and feature local delights, bites and liqueurs made from mandarins!
