'HAIRCUT' COMPENSATION UPDATE

 Pafos Live 17 January 2025

EDEK's proposal for compensation to haircut depositors and securities holders is being implemented by the Christodoulides government, notes party MP Ilias Myrianthous. His party's proposal to start paying compensation to haircut depositors and securities holders and their insistence on endowing the Solidarity Fund is vindicated. "It is being implemented after several years by the Christodoulides government, whose decision we welcome with great satisfaction. We hope, as has been decided, that from next May the payment of compensation to the victims of the unaccountability of the banks and the criminally wrong decisions of the period 2011-2013 will begin.

We note that the current government did not stick to declarations, but proceeds in practice to at least partially repair the consequences of a theft that took place in 2012-2013, with the absorption of securities in June 2012 and the haircut of deposits in March 2013, by the then governments and the tolerance of the other parties, as only EDEK had submitted an alternative proposal. with the aim of preventing the haircut, which was not accepted."
