GEROSKIPOU BEACH - NO POLLUTION SO WATERS SUITABLE FOR SWIMMING

 Pafos Live 13 January 2025

The results of microbiological analyses, conducted by a special laboratory, for the quality of bathing waters at the Municipal Beach of Geroskipou, show that there is no pollution and therefore its waters are suitable for swimming, according to the Municipality of Ierokipia.

In an announcement of the Municipality, it is stated that a few days ago, due to the situation that has arisen on Germaninas Street, near the Municipal Beach of Geroskipou, it had called on the public to avoid swimming in the area for reasons of public health protection.

This action, he had said, was deemed necessary, as despite the repeated steps of the Municipality over the last five months, the sewage system of the Pafos EDA continues to overflow the wells near the Municipal Beach of Geroskipou, resulting in large quantities of sewage ending up in the sea.

Therefore, the Municipality of Ierokipia decided to take legal action against the Pafos EDA and the Joint Venture for the operation and maintenance of the Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The problem has existed for over a decade and, because the situation has reached an impasse, the Municipality of Ierokipia declares that it will do whatever it takes to hold those responsible accountable and defend the interests of the Municipality and the safety of citizens.

It also calls on all those involved, as well as all competent state agencies, to take all necessary actions for the immediate resolution of the problem.
