Fifty-one traffic complaints were made in the city and district of Paphos in the last hours in Paphos as part of a campaign by the Paphos Traffic Police on road collisions. In particular, 250 audits were carried out, which resulted in 51 complaints.

Six were for driving under the influence of alcohol while one driver tested positive for a drug test. The remaining complaints concerned other traffic violations such as violation of the speed limit, driving without a driver's license,  without a helmet, driving without free hands, while complaints were also made about the condition of the vehicles.

A new case of possession and dissemination of sexual abuse material of a minor is being investigated by the Police, who, as part of police examinations, proceeded on Sunday to the arrest of a 42-year-old man. The case is being investigated by the Cybercrime Subdivision.

As stated in a police statement, the investigation of the case began after information received to the Police through Europol and reported that a user of an account on an online social networking platform uploaded on the internet and sent a video file of child sexual abuse.

This was followed by examinations by members of the Cybercrime Subdivision, from which the 42-year-old suspect was identified. A judicial arrest warrant was issued against him, under which he was arrested by members of the Police, shortly before noon on Sunday. In a search of his residence, a tablet-type laptop computer and a mobile phone were found and confiscated for forensic examination.

The 42-year-old was taken into custody, with police investigating a case of acquisition/possession of child pornography, obtaining access to child pornography and disseminating child pornography.

A new case of online fraud and extortion of money, amounting to 58,000 US dollars, is being investigated by the Police, following a complaint submitted to the ICF of Limassol, a 50-year-old man.

According to the 50-year-old's complaint, after searching the internet, he found a specific website where profit investment plans are displayed. Through the website, the 50-year-old invested last December in cryptocurrencies worth a total of 58,000 US dollars.

When the 50-year-old later tried to liquidate his winnings, he was asked to deposit extra money to allow him to withdraw his money, leaving him unable to recover the money he had invested and his alleged profits.

After suspecting that he had been deceived, the 50-year-old filed a complaint with the police today. The fraud case is being investigated by the Financial Crime Investigation Office of the ICF of Limassol.

The Police, on the occasion of this new fraud report, recommends caution to the public, in relation to the conduct of any transactions and investments online.

It is recommended to the public to cooperate only with recognized companies and approved advisors, for any financial investments. Please note that bank account and bank card details, passwords to online and email accounts, as well as other personal data, must be protected and never disclosed to any persons.

Police arrested a 31-year-old man after finding a quantity of drugs and a sum of money in his possession.

According to a police statement, members of the Anti-Narcotics Service – YKAN, conducted on Sunday, pursuant to a court warrant, at the residence of the 31-year-old, where they found a quantity of cannabis, with a total gross weight of about 63 grams, as well as a small amount of cocaine, weighing about 2.5 grams.

It is added that, during the search of the residence, the amount of €13,600 was also found, which was withheld for the purpose of examinations regarding the origin of the money.

In the morning, for another four days, the detention order of the 63-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of the murder of her 62-year-old Ukrainian husband, Vitaly Shostak, who was found dead in their home, on the evening of December 27, in Limassol, was renewed.

The examinations of the police investigators of the ICF Limassol continue regarding the circumstances of the death of the 62-year-old, who suffered a stab wound to the chest, while the suspect allegedly maintains her position that his death resulted from suicide.

According to forensic pathologist Nikolas Charalambous, who conducted an autopsy last Sunday, the 62-year-old's death was caused by internal bleeding while no signs were found to indicate that a fight preceded.

Pending the completion of the examinations, the police, who are investigating a case of premeditated murder, today requested and secured a renewal of the detention order of the 62-year-old for another four days.
