The ICF Headquarters continues to investigate the alleged involvement of a 54-year-old lawyer and a 44-year-old police officer in the escape plan of a 49-year-old Swedish prisoner from a private clinic in Larnaca on December 22, 2024.
The lawyer and the police officer, who are in custody, allegedly cooperated and provided, among other things, shoes, a handcuff key and a mobile phone to the Swede, who was arrested on December 6 at Larnaka airport, after he was wanted by the authorities of his country for a major financial fraud amounting to €90 million. Police are under the microscope of more than 4,000 photographs, which were found on the mobile phone found in the possession of the Swede when he was arrested on December 23 in an apartment building under construction in Larnaca.
The photos were taken between December 10 and 23 and most depict him and the clinic room. Investigators in the case are investigating whether the photographs in question have been sent and to whom. It is noted that one of them depicts the suspect police officer injured in the face.
The court was told the photo was accompanied by a text message in which the 44-year-old allegedly asked the detainee to give money to the 54-year-old lawyer. A forensic examination is expected to take place, in the meantime, both on the lawyer's mobile phone, as well as on 4 others found at the police officer's home. It is recalled that the 49-year-old Swede was transferred to the detention facilities of the Oroklini Police Station and, according to what he confessed, he was approached by the 44-year-old police officer, who was on duty, and suggested that the 54-year-old take over his case.
According to the Swede, the policeman had asked in return to buy his house because he had financial problems. The lawyer visited him and the prisoner gave €5,000 to the lawyer through his son and transferred to her, as reported in court, a luxury car in a limited edition, telling her that its value exceeds €100,000.
On December 9, the 49-year-old Swede was admitted with gastroenteritis to the private clinic in Larnaca and then on various dates, according to what he said in his testimony, the lawyer provided him with a mobile phone and chargers, with sneakers allegedly bought by the policeman, with a key to open the handcuffs, as well as a map with a meeting point. What caused a stir was the 49-year-old man's claim that the lawyer proposed to him a few days after he was admitted to his clinic, which he said he rejected.
He claimed she threatened him immediately after his arrest, citing her high profiles. On the contrary, the 54-year-old, during her arrest on December 31, allegedly claimed verbally that she had developed a flirtation between them and that he proposed to her, telling her, as she claimed, that he wanted to establish relations with the Republic of Cyprus. It is noted that at the lawyer's house in Pervolia, among other things, the empty box of the mobile phone found in the possession of the Swede was found.
Besides, in addition to the 4 mobile phones, 42 cartridges were found in the house of the policeman, while in his legal possession he should have had 25. For this reason, among other things, he faces an offence for illegal possession of explosives. Police have started taking statements (about 60 will be taken) while investigating whether there are other people involved in the case.
It is noted that two more police officers are suspended for the case, while the 44-year-old who is in custody was suspended from the first moment.
