A new case of online fraud and extortion of goods of high monetary value is being investigated by the Police, following a complaint submitted to the ICF of Limassol by an officer of a company based in Limassol. According to the evidence under investigation, last October, the company received an e-mail, according to which a company based in a European country was interested in buying merchandise. After further communication via email, the two companies agreed to the transaction, the Cypriot company carried out the transport and delivery of the merchandise, as indicated by the alleged buyers, to facilities in the European country.

A few days later, after the payment for the merchandise worth USD 81,606 had not been paid, officers of the Cypriot company contacted officers of the European company and found out that it was a fraud, after they were told that the said European company had never placed an order for the merchandise.

On the occasion of this new case of online fraud, the Police once again calls on the public to be particularly careful in their electronic transactions.

In this form of fraud, perpetrators create and use e-mails that are almost identical to that of a real natural or legal person, partner or company. Through messages with the fake e-mail and pretending to be the interested natural or legal person, partner or company, the perpetrators succeed in deceiving unsuspecting citizens, extorting large sums of money, or merchandise, as happened in the specific case investigated by the Police.

To avoid being deceived, the public is advised to always be very careful. It is encouraged that, before proceeding with such transactions, you are advised to contact partners or companies by phone for verification. Such communication should always be made through telephone numbers, used in previous conversations with partners or companies, or through telephone numbers that are disclosed.

A bullet in his body was found during yesterday's autopsy on the body of the foreigner from Pakistan, who was found dead on the day of the Epiphany on the Acropolis.

Initially, during the autopsy performed on his body, nothing was found by forensic pathologist Nikolas Charalambous, who ruled out criminal activity in principle, because at the point where he was shot there was another finding that did not refer to a gunshot wound.

Yesterday morning, the coroner conducted an autopsy on the 25-year-old's body, during which a bullet was found in his body that was found to have entered through the shoulder and penetrated his vital organs.

Following this development, a case of premeditated murder is now being investigated, with the investigators of the ICF Nicosia starting investigations from the beginning to identify perpetrators and motives.

The scene has been cordoned off and tests are ongoing. The 25-year-old foreigner was found dead in a parking lot on Calypso Street in Acropolis, behind Armenias Avenue.
