The investigation into the Nicosia nightclub beating in the early hours of Monday, which is part of organized crime, has been extended to the role of police officers.
Around the area where the beating incident that resulted in the injury of the 44-year-old man and his 33-year-old partner took place, there were members of the Police, who were performing duties for crime prevention.
At the time the attacker beat the 44-year-old police officer of the Crime Prevention Unit (OPE), who was wearing civilian clothes and was on duty, he was at the scene and allegedly saw everything that happened.
These parameters, namely the presence of members of the Police at the scene and their reaction, were examined by the leadership of the Corps. Clarifications were requested in order to establish possible negligence of duty.
However, as a competent police source told "F", it was found that the member of OPE was not in a position to intervene, while the way he handled the data was not such as to be considered incorrect.
The information we had at noon indicated that the ICF Nicosia examining the case had identified the perpetrator through the examination of visual material (CCTV) and testimony. In other words, formal procedures remained for issuing a warrant for his arrest.
Police circles link the incident to organised groups operating in Nicosia and Larnaca, respectively. The beating occurred for reasons related to a union event at the nightclub in question. The attacker caused fractures to the nose and index finger of the 44-year-old's right hand. The 33-year-old partner of the latter was also injured in the fight. She suffered a dislocation on a finger of her hand.
Both persons are of Greek Cypriot origin and reside in Nicosia.
