THE 53 CHEAPEST AND MOST EXPENSIVE COUNTRIES TO LIVE IN

 Filenews 5 December 2024

The 53 cheapest and most expensive countries to live in were revealed, with an Asian country coming in at the top and a North American country at the opposite. Cyprus ranks 38th with the cheapest countries out of a total of 53 countries that participated in the survey.

The table has been compiled by Switzerland-based guide InterNations based on an expatriate survey in which respondents were asked about satisfaction with their financial situation and whether a disposable household income is enough to live a comfortable life.

The cheapest country to live in

Vietnam tops the list as the cheapest country for the third time in a row, with one American living there telling InterNations: "People are very friendly and the cost of living is very low."

More than four in five (86%) living in Vietnam are happy with the country's cost of living, while 68% say their disposable family income is more than enough to live a comfortable life.

Overall, 65% of expats say they are satisfied with their economic situation in Vietnam and this is not only due to the low cost of living. Just under one in five in Vietnam say they earn $150,000 a year.

Last of the 53 countries is Canada, where a Spaniard living permanently reveals to InterNations: "The cost of living is insanely expensive. Going out to eat or drink seems like a luxury."

More than half (53%) say their disposable income is not enough to live a comfortable life in Canada.

The country is described as expensive by 66% of people living there, while more than a quarter of foreign residents (26%) say their economic situation is "very bad".
