Police investigations continue into the detainee who escaped yesterday while being treated under police guard at a private clinic in Larnaca.
It is recalled that this is a 49-year-old Swede, who was arrested on December 6 at Larnaka airport, as a European arrest warrant was pending against him, for offences of a financial nature committed in another country.
He was in detention with the Swedish authorities for the purpose of completing the judicial extradition process. The court proceedings were set for today.
The 49-year-old was held in a private clinic in Larnaca, guarded by members of the police, from whom he managed to escape while handcuffed. He was reportedly hospitalized with acute gastroenteritis and chest pain.
As soon as his escape was noticed, an alarm was raised and members of the police launched a manhunt to locate him.
The police officer guarding him was suspended. He is a Contract Special Police Officer (MSS).

Photos and details of the 49-year-old man, who is wanted in connection with an investigated case of escape from legal detention, committed in Larnaca, shortly before 4.00 pm, on Sunday, December 22, 2024, were released by the Police yesterday, in order to collect information that can help locate him.
