MORE ARRESTS OF MIGRANTS - IN 2024, 9,690 PERSONS STAYING ILLEGALLY IN CYPRUS WERE IDENTIFIED

The Police continued today the actions to identify third-country nationals residing illegally in Cyprus, with a coordinated nationwide police control operation. During today's control operation, the members of the Police proceeded to the arrest of 42 persons of various nationalities, who, as has been established, remain illegally on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.

The Police have already proceeded with the repatriation of nine of the 42 persons, on a flight from Larnaka airport to their countries of origin, while they are proceeding with the procedures for the immediate repatriation of the other 33 persons, always in cooperation with other competent authorities. Along with the nine persons, ten other persons were repatriated, for whom their return to their countries of origin was scheduled for today.

Today's operation began at 5.00 am and ended around 12.00 noon on Sunday. It was attended by members of the Aliens and Immigration Service – YAM, as well as members of the Subdirectorate for Green Line Surveillance and Migration Flow Management.

Since the beginning of the year, a total of 9,690 persons residing illegally in Cyprus have been repatriated through the repatriation procedures of persons residing illegally in Cyprus. In the same period last year, 9,375 persons had been repatriated.

It is also worth mentioning the 45% reduction achieved in illegal arrivals of third-country nationals in Cyprus, as arrivals were limited to 6,057 this year, compared to 10,949 in the corresponding period in 2023.

The efforts of the Police to locate and repatriate persons residing illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus continue daily.
