Bad weather Elena arrives in Cyprus and will hit mainly on Christmas Day, with rain, storms, winds and snow, with the mercury plunging. According to the Department of Meteorology, the low barometric ELENA centred on the Adriatic Sea, is beginning to affect our island and tomorrow is expected to intensify.
Today, Christmas Eve, after the dissipation of local fog, the weather will be partly cloudy, with isolated showers expected, mainly in the west. Gradually, clouds will thicken to give further rain, without excluding isolated thunderstorms, while temporarily strong winds will blow. In the higher mountains, sleet or snow may fall, while frost is expected to form at night locally.
The temperature will rise around 17 degrees in the interior, 19 degrees on the coast and 7 degrees in the mountains.
On Christmas Day, the weather will initially be cloudy and there will be rain, initially in the west and south, which will expand. It is not excluded that isolated thunderstorms may occur, in which hail may fall. Snow or sleet is expected to fall in the higher mountains.
The area will have a strengthened southerly wind field, which will gradually weaken by the afternoon. The temperature is not expected to change significantly and will remain close to average climatic values.
On Thursday and Friday, the weather will be mostly cloudy, with occasional localized showers and isolated thunderstorms. Hail may fall in a thunderstorm, while snow or sleet is expected to fall in the higher mountains.
The temperature on Thursday will drop and on Friday it will remain at the same levels, to be just below the average climatic values of the season.
