The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, elaborated in an interview with "F" the government's strategy to strengthen relations with the United States, focusing on attracting investment, broadening the economic base and upgrading Cyprus' international position.
The President referred to the progress made in 2024, particularly in the field of innovation and start-ups, where Cyprus recorded a significant rise in the global ecosystems index.
In April 2025, the President will pay an official visit to the US with the aim of attracting investment in sectors such as shipping and technology. "The first meeting has already been booked for April 4," he said, noting that these investments will be targeted and will contribute to the creation of new, high-paying jobs.
The President underlined the importance of the strategic dialogue initiated with the United States, noting that Cyprus has acquired a position traditionally maintained only by NATO member states. "Isn't this important for the Republic of Cyprus?" he asked, stressing that foreign policy directly affects the domestic situation, from the labour market to attracting investment.
Cyprus, he said, is already hosting significant US investments, while new announcements are expected by March from the Hellenic Capital Market Commission on projects that will further strengthen the economy.
Christodoulides concluded that extroversion and strategic cooperation with the US are a central axis of government policy, contributing to the country's development and strengthening its international position.
