The Mayor of Pafos, Phaedon Phaedonos, made new serious allegations about Pafos General Hospital after the new flood that occurred yesterday afternoon in First Aid.
Mr. Phaedonos referred to many defects, pointed out that the building is in a tragic condition and that the problems it presents date back decades. In fact, he said that he visited the facilities recently, when it was not raining, and "they were collecting the water with buckets".
"What is urgently needed is a complete renovation of the hospital, expansion from 160 beds to 220 and proper administration and staffing," he said, adding that with the current situation it is impossible to serve serious cases.
He stressed that the Pafos hospital is at the levels it was at when it was built, that is, in the 1990s.
Asked about the assurances given by the Minister of Health and the competent bodies that the hospital will not be flooded again, Mr. Phaedonos described what they said as "lies".
"The contractor to whom they attributed the flood did not speak out and tolerated being blamed publicly. I met him personally. He told me that it was not his responsibility and that the hospital has very serious issues, but he did not speak out so as not to cause problems," he said.
