Following Mazda's announcement of the recall of 11,181 Mazda Demio aircraft with a passenger airbag problem, Honda joined the chorus of vehicle recalls yesterday by announcing the recall of 10,851 vehicles subject to a recall for replacement of Takata brand airbags. Therefore, within a week two of the official dealers proceed with recalls of a total of 21,032 vehicles, as there is a risk of serious injury from the airbag if activated.

The Department of Road Transport (TOM) in an announcement recommends not to use these vehicles until specific instructions are given by the distributor of the manufacturing company. In addition, owners of these vehicles are requested to contact the manufacturer's distributor which in Cyprus is Galatariotis Motors for further instructions.
This recall by the manufacturer's representative includes vehicles registered for many years in Cyprus, which are equipped with the defective Takata airbags.
The recall of airbags poses a very high safety risk and to this end the TFT recommends that owners stop driving them while awaiting instructions from the manufacturer's distributor or until their airbags are replaced.
Note that these airbags become more dangerous over time.
This week, officials of the Department of Road Transport are holding separate meetings with the distributors and expect the rest to proceed with similar moves as the companies representing in Cyprus the manufacturers for Mazda Demio and Honda.
The TUM records the particular conditions faced by each company, such as the number of recalls it expects to be called upon to implement, the number it can serve under the current structure, the possibility of hiring additional staff to increase the rate of implementation of recalls or training other engineers who will be able to service additional recalls, the number of spare parts available and that can be supplied, the time it will take to serve all owners of these vehicles and any alternatives for the period of time until the necessary spare parts arrive.
Apart from the distributors, meetings will also be held with importers in which their responsibility deriving from the European regulation and national legislation will be stressed and for the actions that the TFT expects from them. According to the Regulation, importers are responsible for carrying out the recall even if it will be carried out by authorised workshops of authorised repairers. This obligation includes receiving information from the distributor, monitoring the recall and informing the Department of Road Transport.
