On 7/12/2024, following information received from the Nicosia TAE, officers of the Department of Customs and Excise went to a house where a 40-year-old Greek identity card holder, of Georgian origin, lived. A search warrant had been issued by the police for the search of the house due to his involvement in theft cases.

During the search of the suspect's home, 7 large metal barrels and 4 small plastic containers, containing a total of 1,395 liters of oil, were found on a small terrace of the apartment. The suspect admitted that the oil was transported from the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus with a view to its resale to other persons.

The reported quantity of oil was confiscated by the officers of the Customs and Excise Department, while the suspect was arrested for all offences and will appear before the Nicosia District Court for a request for his detention. The investigation of the case continues by the Police in cooperation with the Department of Customs.

Two persons were detained pursuant to court orders, who were arrested by members of the Police, for the purpose of investigating a case of theft and theft of a mobile phone number from a shop in Paphos. The case is being investigated by the ICF of Pafos.

According to the evidence under investigation, between 26 November and 03 December, a number of mobile phones were stolen from an electronics store in Paphos. The examinations carried out by members of the Police, for the theft of mobile phones, revealed evidence against a 32-year-old man, while evidence also emerged against a second person, a 22-year-old man, for the illegal purchase of a number of phones, which had been stolen.

For police investigations, judicial arrest warrants were issued against the two suspects. The 22-year-old was arrested by members of the Police on Friday morning and on the same day he was brought before the Pafos District Court for a detention order. The Court approved the police's request and issued a five-day detention order against the 22-year-old for the purpose of investigating the theft case.

At noon on Saturday, the 32-year-old was also located and arrested by members of the Police. He was brought this morning before the Pafos District Court, which issued a three-day detention order for the purpose of investigating the theft case.

A case of forged driving licenses is being investigated by the Police, who proceeded yesterday to the arrest of a 25-year-old man. In a search of the 25-year-old suspect's residence, various items were found, which were withheld for the purpose of police examinations.

The arrest of the 25-year-old was led by information received by members of the Limassol Police. According to the information, the 25-year-old was engaged in drawing up fake driving licenses.

At around 2:45 pm on Saturday, members of the Limassol Police Authority, together with members of the Paphos OPE, located and stopped the 25-year-old for inspection in an area in Paphos. In his possession, members of the Police found two forged driving licenses.

The members of the Police proceeded to the arrest of the 25-year-old for the offence of illegal stay in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, after his temporary residence permit in Cyprus expired in June, 2024.

A search of the 25-year-old's residence followed, where, among other items, a laptop computer, an electronic printer, and printouts of driving licenses were found.

For the purpose of investigating the case, the 25-year-old was arrested with a court warrant and taken into custody, while the examinations continue to be carried out by the ICF of Pafos.

Cyprus Police

The Police are investigating two cases of gambling, following inspections carried out at two premises in Nicosia on Friday and Saturday, as part of the actions to address the phenomenon. Nine individuals who were found to be involved in gambling were charged in writing and are expected to be summoned before Court for the trial of the two cases. Six of the nine individuals were found to be involved in gambling, following an inspection carried out by members of the Nicosia Police Department at a premises in Nicosia, at around 8.00pm on Saturday evening. The six individuals, men aged between 58 and 77, including the 63-year-old manager of the premises, were charged in writing for gambling offences, which they allegedly committed. This was preceded by an inspection carried out by members of the Nicosia Police Department at a premises in Strovolos, at around 7.00 pm on Friday. Three individuals, men aged 56, 61 and 71, including the person in charge of the premises, were found to be engaged in gambling at the premises. The three were charged in writing with gambling offences, which they allegedly committed. The Nicosia Central Police Station and the Strovolos Police Station are continuing their investigations.
