Police are conducting investigations to identify the perpetrator of the attempted murder of a 41-year-old Greek Cypriot committed in Limassol. He came out of his house, firing a pistol at the assailant. Financial disputes against the backdrop of illegal activities are believed to be the motives of the attempt.
As the head of the ICF of Limassol Lefteris Kyriakou said in statements at the scene, yesterday around 7 o'clock, the police were informed about a shooting and an injured person in the area of Agia Fyla. "Police patrols immediately rushed to the area and cordoned it off. Preliminary examinations revealed that a 41-year-old man was wounded in the leg by a gunshot, while according to testimonies, it appears that the 41-year-old along with a 31-year-old and 28-year-old had arranged a meeting with a friend about some differences they had.
As soon as he became aware of their presence, this person and a tenant of the house outside which the attempt was committed, came out armed and started shooting. "With a pistol he fired three shots resulting in one of the three people, a 41-year-old man, being wounded in the leg," Kyriacou said.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital. The perpetrator fled in the car of the three complainants parked in the area. "A warrant has been issued for his arrest. The injured man has a gunshot wound to the leg and has suffered a crushing fibula and tibia fracture. He has been admitted to the operating room where he is undergoing surgery by doctors," Kyriacou said.
Responding to a journalist's comment that the incident took place in a busy and densely populated area, the head of the ICF Limassol said that "it is worrying, but the Police are in the area, carrying out checks and taking the appropriate actions".
Regarding the differences between the four involved, Kyriacou said that these are issues that will be clarified by the investigation of the case and the taking of statements. Reports say the four, known to police, had financial differences.

Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is investigating a serious assault that occurred early yesterday morning, which sources suggest may be connected to organised crime.
The incident took place around midnight at a prominent Nicosia nightclub during a celebratory event of a historic sports club temporarily based in Larnaca.
A 44-year-old off-duty security guard was severely beaten under circumstances being investigated by CID, suffering multiple fractures.
The victim sustained a broken nose and fractured right index finger. His 33-year-old partner, also present during the altercation, suffered a dislocated finger.
Police received the initial report at 12:40 am. An ambulance transported the victim to the Accident and Emergency Department, where doctors confirmed the injuries. Police and CID officers immediately attended the scene.
According to Filenews sources, the victim has told police investigators that he does not know his attacker and has not provided any information to assist the investigation.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the nightclub, which shows the victim in an altercation with a well-built individual. However, the footage has gaps due to the location of the incident.
While police had not officially identified the assailant as of late yesterday afternoon, preliminary evidence suggests possible links to a criminal group. The investigation was complicated by the presence of a wedding reception being held in another room of the venue.
Police sources privately attribute the incident to tensions between criminal groups operating in Nicosia and Larnaca, though this has not been officially confirmed by Cyprus Police.
The case is currently being investigated as grievous bodily harm, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years imprisonment, a fine, or both.
Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the investigation could expand as new evidence emerges.

Incredible are the details of the alleged involvement of the 44-year-old police officer and the 54-year-old lawyer in the escape of the 49-year-old Swede from a private clinic in Larnaca on December 22. The three suspects were brought before the Larnaca District Court on Tuesday afternoon and the police requested their detention for a period of 8 days.
All three face serious felony conspiracy to commit felony offences and transactions suggesting corruption, among other charges.
As reported to the court by the examiner of the case, Andreas Andreou, of the ICF Headquarters, when the Swede was arrested on December 23 in an apartment building under construction in Larnaca, a mobile phone was found in his possession, as well as a sports bag. He initially said in his testimony that he bought the phone from a passerby and that he had found the bag dumped in a park. Then, however, in a second filing, he implicated his lawyer and the police officer in the case.
According to what was said in court, the 49-year-old Swede said that during his detention at the Oroklini Police Station he was approached by the said policeman, suggesting that the 54-year-old, who was a known lawyer of his, take over his case. The 54-year-old, the Swede said, visited him and told him that she had contacts at a higher level and that she had even managed to save her ex-husband, who was a criminal and now lives in the Netherlands. The lawyer then allegedly demanded money from the 49-year-old, who claimed that he was transferring €5,000 through his son. When the lawyer allegedly asked for another fee to help him escape, the 49-year-old transferred a luxury vehicle to her on the condition that she sell it and send the rest to his family. Then, according to the Swede, she brought him to the clinic, where he began to be treated, a mobile phone and chargers and proposed to him so that he could remain in Cyprus, which he rejected.
The officer reportedly sent a photo of himself on the 49-year-old's cellphone, in which he appeared to be injured, asking him to send more money to the lawyer. He also allegedly bought the shoes worn during the escape by the suspect, who said the lawyer even gave him a key to open the handcuffs, advising him to take them with him to avoid raising suspicions about how he opened them. She also allegedly gave him a map of the meeting point after the escape, where a vehicle was supposed to be waiting for him. However, after the escape, he did not find the vehicle, only a bag, he told investigators.
When he was arrested, the suspect presented herself again as his lawyer when he received the first statement and, according to the Swede, when they were left alone, she told him he was a fool for not throwing away the mobile phone found in his possession. The Swedish prisoner claimed in his second statement that the 54-year-old threatened him, telling him she had many acquaintances.
The lawyer and the police officer were arrested at dawn, the first in Pervolia and the second in Kiti. Verbally, the 54-year-old reportedly said that a flirtation developed with the 49-year-old Swede and that he was the one who proposed to her. The police officer reportedly admitted that he bought the sneakers at the suggestion of the lawyer, that he sent a photo of him to the 49-year-old, who, he said, would help him financially.
The Larnaca District Court ordered the suspects to be detained for 8 days
It is recalled that two other members of the Police were suspended for the case. He is a Contract Special Police Officer (MSS), who guarded the 49-year-old Swede during the escape, as well as a duty officer of the Larnaca Police Authority. The latter allegedly irregularly instructed the SAR to take over the 49-year-old's guard, despite the fact that this duty is not part of his duties.
