A resident of the Mouttalou neighbourhood reported to the police that unknown persons broke into his residence. During his absence last night, unknown persons broke into his house from which they reportedly stole a sum of money of €500 and electronic equipment, mainly tablets.

Examinations have been carried out and a number of elements have been identified that could lead to the identification of the perpetrators.

The Permanent Assize Court of Famagusta has decided a ten-year prison sentence against a 52-year-old man, for a case of rape and kidnapping against a woman, committed in 2022 in Ayia Napa.

According to a police statement, the court yesterday sentenced the 52-year-old to 10 years in prison after finding him guilty of rape, abduction or kidnapping with intent to subject a person to sexual abuse and indecent assault against a woman.

The offences were committed in July 2022 in Ayia Napa.

This also happened at another high school in Larnaka, sounding once again alarm bells regarding the increase in incidents of delinquent behaviour. A student allegedly threw a bottle filled with water at the head of a teacher, who even visited the First Aid Department of Larnaka Hospital.

The unbelievable incident happened on Thursday afternoon at a high school in Larnaka district, while the teacher was writing on the board and had her back turned. Regarding the incident, as Filenews learns, the police station of the area was informed from the first moment and a relevant form was given to the professor to visit the Hospital.

The school administration investigated the incident and concluded that the bottle was thrown by a student of the first high school, who has been expelled and her parents were informed about it. So far, according to information from the police, the teacher has not filed a formal complaint, however, if she does so, an investigation will be launched.

An 18-year-old girl was reported in a rape case, resulting in a 25-year-old man being arrested and detained for five days.

The complainant went a few days ago to the Limassol Police Department and reported that she was the victim of a 25-year-old young man. The latter was brought on Wednesday (18/12) before the Limassol District Court, which in closed proceedings ordered his detention for a period of five days.

As Filenews is aware, the complainant denounced the 25-year-old young man, claiming that he had intercourse with her against her will. He said the incident happened last month at the home of the suspect, whom he has known for some time. The 18-year-old claims that since the rape she suffered, she became pregnant and found out a few weeks ago.

Following the complaint of the young woman, who has mobility problems, the investigators of the ICF Limassol proceeded to arrest the 25-year-old. The latter after his arrest gave various allegations, claiming that what happened at his residence happened with the consent of the young girl.

Two defendants charged for the double murder in Arakapas earlier this year pleaded not guilty on Friday to premeditated murder.

Appearing at Limassol criminal court, the two defendants, aged 19 and 23, denied all 10 charges faced for the killing of Andreas Kouzoupis and David Chmelar, aged 39 and 38.

The victims were shot in the head and their bodies set on fire in a car on July 31. Their charred remains were found in the vehicle on a dirt road between Pareklissia and Kelaki.

Both are being held in the central prisons and face charges including premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, arson, the use of a firearm as well as its possession and transport. They also face charges for supplying drugs.

In a previous hearing, the defendants blamed each other for the murder.

The 19-year-old pointed to one of the victims as their dealer.

Court will reconvene for trial in April.

One of the longest sentences in a drug case was imposed today by the Permanent Assize Court on a 28-year-old foreigner in connection with the case of 64 kilos of cannabis found in his possession 3 months ago. The defendant was found guilty by his own admission to the offences of possession, possession with intent to supply and money laundering.

The decision of the Assize Court was unanimous, and it refers to the dimensions of the scourge of narcotic substances and in particular that the offenders are young people. The Assize Court took into account the personal and family circumstances of the defendant, as set out by his defence counsel.

The Assize Court imposed a sentence of 19 years in prison on the charge of possession with intent to supply to other persons, while on the charge of money laundering, a sentence of 3 years. He did not impose any penalty on the charge of possession. 

According to the facts of the case, the members of YKAN Limassol on September 30, 2024 intercepted the vehicle and during the check a small quantity of drugs was found in the possession of the 28-year-old. Subsequently, a search was carried out in the hotel room where the 28-year-old was staying in Limassol, where a quantity of cannabis with a gross weight of approximately 20 kg was found. Questioned by YKAN members, the 28-year-old admitted and pointed to a second apartment in Germasogeia, which he was using, where a quantity of cannabis of about 60 kilos was found. During the searches, a sum of money amounting to 18,900 euros was also found. In total, the net weight of drugs reaches the amount of 64 kg.

The defendant confessed to possession of the total quantity of cannabis found during the above investigations, expressing remorse. According to the facts of the case, which were admitted, the defendant stated that he came to Cyprus by plane from London on 19/9/2024. He said the cannabis found during his searches had been handed over on separate occasions by another person, whom he declined to name, expressing fears for his life and that of his family. He also said that he had stored the cannabis and received instructions over the phone to deliver it to third parties, while the electric airtight sealer or vacuum sealer, as well as the various packages of airtight sealing or vacuum found in his apartment, had been purchased by him. based on instructions received.

Also, the cannabis found at the hotel had been taken there by him to be delivered to another person. In addition, in relation to the role he assumed before coming to Cyprus from London, he had agreed that he would receive a reward of £5,000 upon his return back to London and that the sum of €18,900 and the quantity of cannabis found together in the leather bag inside his flat did not belong to him, but he would hand them over to another person upon receiving instructions. which he expected.
