The national blood bank has issued an urgent appeal for donations ahead of the New Year holiday period to maintain adequate blood supplies, despite current stocks being sufficient.
Blood Bank Chief Androulla Panayiotou said that whilst current safety stock levels are adequate, continued donations remain crucial. The centre requires 300 to 350 units of blood daily, but only receives about 220 donors per day.
“To maintain stocks and ensure the Blood Bank can respond to emergencies such as accidents, we are calling on people to come forward and donate”, said Panayiotou.
The blood donation centre in Engomi will open this weekend from 09:30 to 14:00.
On Sunday, the Limassol donation centre will operate from 09:00 to 14:00, whilst the Paphos centre will open from 08:00 to 14:00.
The Larnaca donation service will be available at the Old Primary School in Avdellero on Sunday from 10:00 to 12:00.
