CYPRUS COMPANY OF AGROTOURISM

It was founded in 1996 by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (now the Deputy Ministry of Tourism) in order to bring under one umbrella the small owners of traditional buildings in the countryside.

The objectives of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and the Members of the Cyprus Co of Agrotourism was the creation of an alternative form of holiday close to man, tradition and nature. With the help and support of the involved state services, they managed to communicate their vision to the rural world, which was facing several economic and other problems in connection with the reduction of its active population.

The response to her call to invest in the countryside was significant. Many traditional buildings were renovated thus maintaining the traditional architecture of the villages and were subsequently converted into tourist accommodation with financial incentives in an effort to mitigate urbanization and develop the local economy.

The Cyprus Agrotourism Society currently consists of over 124 members from all districts. There are over 190 properties in about 60 villages of Cyprus and other related businesses that complete the tourist experience and operate in the countryside such as museums, taverns, wineries, farms, workshops of traditional products and other activities that enrich the visitor experience.
