As of December 18, 2024, the "Digital Assistant" will be available to Cypriot citizens, through gov.cy, which with the use of artificial intelligence will be a useful information tool for users.
As mentioned by the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Dr Nikodemos Damianou, during the presentation of the umbrella project "Digital Citizen", for the first time the Government of Cyprus is implementing artificial intelligence services and in particular genetic productive artificial intelligence.
Its use is similar to other applications such as for example "ChatGPT". In other words, it will be done through the process of conversation. Citizens will be able to ask questions and the "Digital Assistant" will answer them. It will operate 24 hours a day. They will be able to answer and converse in Greek, English and Greeklish.
The first issue, as the Deputy Minister noted, which will be implemented from next Wednesday (18/12), will concern the Social Insurance Services, since this category concerns the most frequently asked questions of citizens to the competent services.
For example, if a citizen is going to become a father, he will be able to ask the "Digital Assistant" what he wants to know about his rights. They can find out the amount of paternity benefit, the duration of the benefit, or even they can be referred to the relevant website to download all the documents they will need.

The next category that will be included in the "Digital Assistant", as the Deputy Minister mentioned, will concern Social Welfare services.
It is an application which, as has been said, is trained and made better by using it. "The more we communicate with him, the more he learns," he said.
Through this tool, artificial intelligence is essentially put at the service of all Cypriot citizens.
As stressed by the Deputy Minister, it is important to understand that we are essentially talking with a machine, so it is not possible for him to give us any legal advice and he will also not be able to respond for obvious reasons to issues concerning personal data.
Working with Microsoft
The main partner of the Deputy Ministry for the implementation of this project is Microsoft. In her message, the CEO of Microsoft in Greece, Cyprus and Malta, Yianna Andronopoulou, said that the "Digital Assistant" comes to complement the services provided by gov.cy as well as the "Digital Citizen", giving responsible and valid answers to citizens' questions.
"We are with the Government of Cyprus in this new journey and we are glad that it is moving forward with a focus on artificial intelligence in a new era that will give more prosperity to all," he concluded.
