WITH PROTOCOLS NOW THE TRANSFER OF PRISONERS

 Filenews 27 November 2024

The management of the Department proceeded to the establishment of two special units that will be in charge of escorting prisoners outside prisons, after the escape of the 'lifer' hairdresser.

The teams will deal one with escorting prisoners out of prison and the other with transporting convicts for hospital treatment. The operation of the two teams will be governed by a relevant protocol, the preparation of which had been requested by the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Marios Hartsiotis, after it was found that there were no protocols for escorting prisoners or transferring them out of prison.

The two teams were established in order to enhance security during transfers and escorts of prisoners outside prisons following recent instructions from the Minister of Justice and Public Order and consist of specially trained staff members. The main mission of the special teams is to take all appropriate security measures and actions, as these are now recorded in detailed and detailed Protocols of actions prepared for this purpose for the safe transport of prisoners to and from prisons as well as staff members.

The Protocols, according to information provided by "F", will provide in a clear and detailed manner all the information and guidance required for all cases in which the transfer of a prisoner out of prison is approved or permitted or imposed. At the same time, for the first time, a special tool has been created to assess the risk of the detainee during transport or leave with escort.
