Police are again urging public attention to phone fraud via WhatsApp.
Through the communication platform – WhatsApp, the criminals call unsuspecting citizens to a video call, falsely pretending to communicate with the Cyprus Police.
Fraudsters ask citizens to declare various personal and banking details. (Presentation of ID, passport, debit/credit cards, etc.).
The aforementioned phone calls are the product of fraud and do not come from the Police.
The public is invited to be particularly attentive and:
Do NOT respond to calls and instructions received from fraudsters.
Do Not respond to any links sent.
Do not reveal to others, codes that they may have received on their mobile phone.
In case bank data were declared during such a call, the public should IMMEDIATELY inform their Banking Institution to avoid unwanted use of their data.
