Heavy rainfall and hailstorms are in progress in various areas of Cyprus. Intense phenomena at this time mainly in areas of Limassol, while earlier there were several rains in areas of Paphos.
An orange weather warning is in effect until 18:00.
PROBLEMS IN THE ROAD NETWORK
Due to landslides, volumes of soil and stones, the Gerasa-Agros road has been closed. Drivers are advised to use alternatively the route Agios Athanasios – Sfalangiotissa – Mathikoloni.
Due to heavy hailstorms in the areas of Akaki – Astromeritis, in Nicosia and Agios Tychonas, in Limassol, visibility is limited. Drivers should be careful, drive at low speeds, keep headlights on and keep a safe distance.
The Troodos area also turned white from the intense hailstorm observed shortly after 13:00. Be careful when moving in the area due to hail as the road surface is particularly slippery.
Severe weather conditions earlier in the area of the Limassol – Paphos motorway.
According to the Police, there are severe weather phenomena especially in the areas of Paramali, Sotira, Petra Romiou & Kouklia. Water and hail have accumulated on the road surface in various parts of the road and drivers should be extremely careful.
Due to water accumulation on the roadway, one lane of the road Mandria – Pera Pedi has been closed. Drivers are advised to be particularly careful and comply with traffic signs and police instructions.
The storm has moved further north towards hilly/mountainous Limassol. According to reports from Kitasweather friends, the epicenter of the storm is experiencing large amounts of rain, large hail and strong winds.
Earlier, a water turbine was observed in the sea area south of Limassol.
Rains are also observed in Limassol at this time, without any particular problems.
