FOUR young people died in two road accidents over the weekend. Four young people were so unjustly lost. Tragic. Family and social tragedy, which unfortunately is recurrent. Since the beginning of the year, 44 people have been killed in 38 fatalities.
THIS is a scourge that does not go away as there are no effective interventions. And that is why there are many responsibilities, collective and unbearable.
THIS issue has been discussed many times in the public sphere. And many initiatives have been taken and measures adopted. We need, as the President of democracy said, to build a culture for road safety.
ROAD culture is the one that is absent from society and remains a key factor over time, which leads to fatal accidents. How can it be changed? With information, systematic and methodical, starting from kindergarten and gradually strengthening and upgrading over the years.
This information SHOULD be institutionalized. It should be done by experts and not be an occasional briefing, but part of the educational program. It is a course which combines knowledge and prevention. If it is included in the education program, then obviously the State will attach greater importance to building culture.
We have often mentioned and this has become tediously repetitive, that it is imperative for all of us to be collective and first and foremost to build a culture for road safety. It is precisely because it is tragic that it is unfair that young children are lost on the asphalt. It is tragic that lives are lost in fatal accidents, and all those measures must be taken, by the competent and non-competent citizens, in order to reduce fatalities to a minimum.
We should NOT mention all this after such tragedies when we witness such tragic events. That is why action is needed. Police spokeswoman Kyriaki Lambrianidou said she will re-study strategic actions and legislative regulations related to the prevention of road collisions.
DO NOT leave everything to chance and... We load into the "bad hour". In order to do this, however, there must be road awareness and when driving, in traffic in general, there must be attention to the road.
