Intense weather conditions are expected to continue on Sunday into Monday, the fire service said, after storms overnight caused the met office to issue a yellow weather warning.
The warning will be in effect until Sunday evening.
The fire service said that they are prepared to deal with any emergencies that may arise due to the weather, and that on Saturday night there were no serious incidents, despite the hail, storms, and drop in temperatures.
According to fire services spokesman Andreas Kettis, staff are on call and will respond to any emergencies that may arise from the weather.
Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) an officer from the met department, Tassos Koulentis said Cyprus is affected by a barometric low, noting that on Sunday “showers at times and isolated thunderstorms are expected, while in some cases the phenomenon will be intense”.
He said, “it seems that the storms could continue overnight to a more limited extent, mainly in western, northern, and coastal areas.”
He noted that tomorrow the system is moving further east of the island and it seems that the circulation is changing, adding that “it is cooling somewhat gradually from tonight and during tomorrow, where we expect again some localised showers, but also isolated thunderstorms, mainly again in western and northern parts of the island, but also on the coast mainly, without excluding any other areas.”
Koulentis added that temperatures are expected to fall and that there will be hail in some cases.
